Clubhouse coalition honors Employment Options employer at State
House
Marlborough - Members and staff of Employment Options, Inc., a
Marlborough-based nonprofit organization that serves people with
mental illness and low-income individuals, gathered at the State
House in Boston April 7 to honor CVS. Two CVS stores in Marlborough
and one in Framingham provide employment opportunities for Options
Clubhouse members with mental illness, and Options selected the
company as their employer of the year.
The Massachusetts Clubhouse Coalition presented the award to CVS
during a ceremony that also honored 32 other Massachusetts companies
that employ people with mental illness. These companies play an
important part in supporting the members to return to the workforce
with poise.
As a member of the Massachusetts Clubhouse Coalition, Employment
Options works collaboratively with a number of companies in the
Metrowest area who provide jobs for their members, while the Clubhouse
provides supported, independent and transitional employment services.
In a recent statement released by Options, Anupa Shah, the organization's
marketing and employment manager, said Options continually seeks
to establish more partnerships with area businesses to form mutually
beneficial relationships. According to Shah, CVS store managers
patiently helped train the members and were "extremely accommodating"
throughout transitions.
"CVS has a long history of participating in innovative workforce
programs that benefit individuals with special needs, as well as
the community at large," said James Bazoukas, district manager
for CVS/pharmacy. "We have had great success in working with
Employment Options through their Transitional Employment program
to fill positions in some of our Metrowest stores.
"Options members are excellent employees who are always willing
to learn and work hard to help us take care of our customers. We
would recommend Employment Options to other local businesses that
are looking to hire loyal and hard-working employees."
