Monnick Supply awarded "Employer of the Year"Marlborough,
MA On Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at 11:00 am in the Great Hall at the Statehouse
in Boston, Monnick Supply of Marlborough will be one of 32 employers to be honored
by the Massachusetts Clubhouse Coalition (MCC). The Department of Mental Health
(DMH) acting Commissioner Dr. Kenneth Duckworth will join over 50 Massachusetts
legislators in honoring key employers for providing critical jobs while recognizing
the accomplishments of people who have disabilities as they overcome obstacles
and return to work. Employment Options, Inc., a psychosocial clubhouse
in Marlborough is a proud affiliate of the MCC program and will be well represented
by staff and members. Employment Options provides supported, independent and transitional
employment to it members, working closely with various companies in and around
Marlborough. Monnick Supply of Marlborough has been chosen as Employment Options'
key employer and will be awarded at this event. "Employment Options
has been very helpful in placing and training members to meet Monnick's requirements.
Paul Whitney of Options, has now been with us since 3 years and has become family.
My main aim is to do what is right for this company and my community" says
Paul Montalbano, owner of Monnick Supply. Over 730 Massachusetts companies
employed clubhouse members in 2001 according to the employment survey the MCC
released last year. Clubhouses are centers funded by the DMH to provide a welcoming
place in the community for people who have a mental illness. Strengths and abilities
are the focus rather than their illness. "When business communities and clubhouses
work together, an atmosphere of accomplishment and self-confidence is created,
leading to improved health" says Ruth Cohen, Employment Coordinator, Employment
Options, Inc. Clubhouse members earned $7,765,013 last year, bringing in
needed tax revenue to the state while following their path to recovery. The MCC
will release its new survey on May 13th in an effort to highlight the positive
contributions people with mental illness make in their communities. Employment
Options earned $125,473 in the fiscal year 2002 through supported and transitional
employment alone. Paul Whitney has been a member at Employment Options
for several years and has been working with Monnick Supply for the past 3 years.
"I can't remember the last time I felt this good about my work and my life"
says Paul who is one of many members to have found satisfaction through work and
being back in the community.
