Employment Services
Participation in meaningful work is the cornerstone of the success
of the Options Clubhouse Model.
Through opportunities for meaningful work, members gain a sense
of accomplishment. With each accomplishment, members realize their
strengths, and use these to succeed in other areas.
Vocational Training
Meaningful work often begins in the Options Clubhouse work areas
where members and staff collectively assure the smooth running of
the Options Clubhouse. Members and Staff work side-by-side in each
of Employment Options work areas:
- Business / Career
- Kitchen
- Employment
Vocational training is based on the Options Clubhouse Work-Ordered
Day Model. For many members, meaningful work within the Options
Clubhouse leads to transitional, supported or independent employment
at local businesses.
Transitional Employment Placements
Transitional Employment (TE) is the lifeblood of the Options Clubhouse.
The opportunity to work creates hope for individuals with mental
illness, and is a right of membership. Members work at the employer's
place of business, and are paid the prevailing wage directly by
the employer. Members are asked to commit to a TE placement for
6 to 9 months typically.
The Options Clubhouse selects and trains the worker at the work
site, and provides back-up for the employee when necessary. The
Options Clubhouse member gains invaluable experience from working
a TE position, including increasing self-esteem, developing interpersonal
and vocational skills, and developing a work history for future
job applications.
Supported & Independent Employment Placements
Supported (SE) and Independent Employment (IE) is competitive work
with ongoing support services to assist members in performing their
job.
With Supported and Independent Employment, members can maintain
their own jobs indefinitely with support as needed from Employment
Options, including:
- Resume preparation
- Cover letters
- Networking
- On-the-job support
- Job development
- Advocacy between member and employer
- Assistance with entitlements
- Parental support
- Ongoing communication between member and employer
- Additional off-site support.
