What's Cooking?

  • Program Overview
Over the course of 7 weeks participants will undertake a strong educational curriculum paired with hands on kitchen skills. Students will learn about food safety, food prep, and food presentation. At the end of this course, the student will walk away with four certifications: SERV Safe Food Handlers Certification, Massachusetts Allergen Awareness Certification, Massachusetts Food Equipment and Safety Training (FEAST) Certification, and a Fresh Start Certificate. Students establish individualized learning objectives to ensure successful completion of the course. Once the course has been completed and students have earned their respective certifications, intensive ongoing supports will guide them towards successful employment.
  • Course Completion
85% of Cooking Up a Career graduates have been placed in jobs with long-term retention. The retention rate can be attributed to the intensive ongoing supports from staff at Employment Options and the willingness to assist individuals at all times with their employment goals.
  • Cost and Qualifications
This program is fully funded and is available at no cost to qualifying students. Participants in this program must have a disability and be unemployed and/or underemployed and have an interest in pursuing a career in the culinary field.

“I never thought I would have an opportunity like this.”
